Athol Hall: The Ultimate Wedding Venue for Nature-Loving Couples
Athol Hall situated just southeast of Taronga Zoo and a short drive away from Athol Beach lies the incredible Athol Hall, in Mosman – an exquisite, beautiful venue that has consistently demonstrated itself to be a perfect wedding location.
A magnificently restored heritage venue, Athol Hall is surrounded by a gorge of natural beauty that will make you truly feel the love in the air. As a professional wedding photographer, Athol Hall is one of my favorite wedding venues in Sydney.
The style is divine, the staff is friendly, there’s plenty of room for all your family and friends, the views are breathtaking and the location is unbeatable! Below, I’ve put together a review of an outstanding venue that you will absolutely love if you’re planning to get married.
Venue
Let me start with the venue itself – which consists of a number of locations. The location is the design of Angela Neylon, a globally recognized interior designer. The whole venue was completely renovated in 2017 and boasts natural lighting.
Athol Hall (interior)
On the inside of Athol Hall, you’ll get treated to a gorgeous room featuring marvelous timber floors, enchanted wooden white walls, and an incredibly high ceiling.
What you do with the venue is therefore completely up to your imagination - you can design it any way you like, simply because of the tremendous amount of space afforded to you.
What's even more of an elegant touch are the French Oak Louis dining chairs - adding that much more class to your wedding day! It’s also a perfect location for photos (as the photos in this review clearly show). And don’t worry – there’s plenty of room for dancing!
Athol Hall (exterior)
On the outside of Athol Hall, there is an old-fashioned undercover balcony which is a great place for you and your guests to stand, have a drink and talk to one another.
The balcony runs across the entire length of the venue and is great for all the guests to enjoy canapes and champagne before dinner. The balcony has some incredible views of Sydney Harbour, and an excellent location to watch a glorious sunset.
Athol Hall Lawn
This is the best place for you to exchange your vows at a wedding ceremony, especially if you have a large crowd of people attending. It’s also a great place for your wedding reception.
Located right in front of Athol Hall, the lawn has incredible views and a wonderfully grand entrance where people can come to your ceremony.
The luscious green serenity surrounding the ceremony will provide the perfect backdrop for an outdoor wedding, with plenty of space for your guests to sit, mingle, play lawn games and enjoy the festivities.
Athol Beach
Just a short 3-minute walk away from the venue (via a set of enchanted rock stairs) is the beautiful Athol Beach. It is the most glorious backdrop for you to get some amazing wedding photos taken.
You and your partner can take a stroll across the sand and the rocks, gazing out into the water and enjoying some breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour as you let your wedding photographer take the photos that you'll cherish forever.
This is personally my favorite feature that Athol Hall has to offer. After a beautiful ceremony where all your family and friends are celebrating, there’s just something magical about walking down rock stairs and luscious greenery, going privately down to the beach with your partner, and taking takes some more intimate wedding photos while enjoying the peaceful sounds of the water. Just magical!
Bradley’s Head Amphitheatre
For a cosier fit (i.e. less than 120 guests), you can also have your wedding ceremony at the amphitheatre at Bradleys Head. This is an incredibly popular lookout situated at Sydney Harbour National Park. If you want a charmingly romantic backdrop, this is certainly the place to have your ceremony.
Views
From the venue (indeed – all parts of the venue), you can see some breathtaking waterfront views of Sydney Harbour. You'll be able to see both the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, providing an incredible opportunity for some fantastic photos of the city skyline in the background.
When the sun sets, you'll be able to get some stunning views of Sydney's most famous landmarks as they turn on their lights. If you get married in June, you'll be able to see the incredible lights of Vivid shining on the sails of the Sydney Opera House.
Occupancy limits
You can have up to 130 guests seated (formal sit down) or 200 guests (cocktail style) if you decide to have your wedding at Athol Hall.
It, therefore, makes this venue a great setting for both a reception and a ceremony if you have a lot of family and friends on the guest list!
Staff
The staff at Athol Hall are incredibly professional and experts at what they do. They will make your experience seamless. When I attended, everything flowed like clockwork. Everybody who works there is extremely friendly, and welcoming and is quick to make you feel right at home. Nothing is too troublesome for them!
Food
I loved the food at Athol Hall. The venue will tailor a menu specifically for you, so you can make sure that the food served will be something that you and all your guests will enjoy!
Their menu is incredibly varied.
For canapes, there is such diversity to choose from. You can have ocean trout, smoked chicken, duck breast, cheeseburger spring rolls with honey mustard, dukkha, beer-battered barramundi and much more.
When it comes to the main meal, you can enjoy anything from roasted lamb rump and seared Atlantic salmon to roasted corn-fed chicken breast and Ravioli buffalo ricotta.
For dessert, there are plenty of delectable options to choose from, such as blueberry and lemon cheesecake, Baked Pear & Walnut Frangipane tart and Tonka Bean Pannacotta.
There are Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Vegetarian options available.
You can view Athol Hall’s premium wedding package here, which details the various menus they offer.
Photo opportunities
There are amazing photo opportunities across the entire Athol Hall venue. This includes on the Athol Hall lawn (from the balcony) and also at Bradley's Head Amphitheatre. There’s also an old stone jetty you can attend where you can get some excellent views of the city skyline.
However, what I find the most special are the views at Athol Beach. There’s just something about gazing at the city skyline from the sand, with the gorgeous ocean in front of it that, for me, just makes the most magical wedding photo any couple will cherish.
Cost
The cost of a wedding at Athol Hall will depend on a number of factors - from the time you have your wedding to the customization that you request.
I'd recommend speaking directly to the team at Athol Hall directly to enquire about their wedding packages.
Parking
There is plenty of parking available. You can find paid parking close by on-site inside Sydney Harbour National Park and also along Bradley's Head Road.

There is plenty of accommodation near Athol Hall that you and your guests can stay nearby if they are traveling quite a long distance to attend your wedding. Some examples include:
